Rosemond Brown popularly known as Akuapem Poloo has been handed a 90-day jail term by the Accra Circuit Court after the Director of Child Rights International Ghana, Bright Appiah petitioned the police over the publication of a nude picture with her son on his 7th birthday.
The said picture went viral on social media. The matter was referred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) when the incident occurred.
The sentence on Friday, 16th April 2021 comes after she posted a naked picture with her son on social media celebrating his 7th birthday.
The judge, Christina Cann expressed dissatisfaction with the worrying rate with which nudity has become a thing in the country’s social media space.
She said it is necessary for the court to take sanctions for the message to go down with all how wrong it is to do that on social media. The judge added that Poloo is being disciplined to serve as a deterrent to others.
On Wednesday, the actress who was remanded into police custody undertook a pregnancy test before her sentencing.
The actress was facing charges of publication of explicit materials, engaging in domestic violence namely conduct that in any way undermines another person’s privacy or integrity, and engaging in domestic violence namely conduct that in any way detracts or is likely to detract from another person’s dignity and worth as a human being.
Miss Brown’s lawyers say they plan to appeal the sentence.
